EDWARD TEO,
Managing Director
Edward
Teo is a veteran of the Malaysian motor industry, having begun
his career in the 1960s. Edward spent many years of his career
with Borneo Motors, subsidiary of the Inchcape Group. He was
among the first group of Malaysian executives whom Inchcape,
a British concern, nurtured to become skilled in the motor
trade. During his time with Borneo Motors, which distributed
Toyota vehicles, Edward served as a director of the company.
During the 1980s, Edward was in the top management of leading
Malaysian car companies and was involved in the import, assembly,
marketing, sales and distribution of various Japanese and
German makes. Always enthusiastic about cars, he was drawn
to the TD2000, which he first saw in Australia in 1989. Upon
learning that the company making it was available for sale,
Edward gathered a group of investors to acquire the company
and bring the TD2000 to Malaysia.
In the process, he also
saw the wisdom of shifting production to Malaysia, thus initiating
transfer of technology in line with the Malaysian government's
expectations.
